What a great way to start off 2015, not only did I get to do 2 parkruns today due to the special New Years Day ruling that 2 parkruns count, but they were run 49 & run 50 for me. Â I did my first parkrun about 5 months after I started running using the Zombies, Run! Couch to 5k app, and since then it’s become a huge part of my life. Â It is great fun going to new parkruns in varying locations and I have met lots of great people (including @abradypus via whom I discovered Janathon).
I used the first run at Woodley parkrun to do the threshold run from tomorrow’s running plan, I knew it was partially paved so figured it was my best chance of the 2 runs to manage to hit an interval of 8 mins at 5:20/km pace. Â Typically a large part of the interval fell on slightly squishy grass, but I was happy to manage an average pace of 5:26/km. Â I even managed a sneaky sprint finish so finish in 29:48, a nice sub30 start to the year.
It was then a short drive over to the much muddier Reading parkrun for my second run of the day, and my 50th parkrun. Â This was quite tough given the soggy conditions and the effort I had put in at Woodley and I wasn’t able to finish quite as strongly but 33:03 isn’t all that bad!
It was good to catch up with fellow parkrun tourists (much more accomplished than I am) @KezzaBumpkins, @n0rm & @Urglecom at both runs and to see @Totkat for coffee afterwards (she’s currently banned from running after an ankle op) and it was also quite cool for my Dad to come along to watch both runs. Â He did get some photos but technical error meant they haven’t burnt to disc properly so they’re in Reading and I am back home….so I’ll get them loaded later.
After all that running it was good to head back to Mum & Dad’s for “Christmas dinner”, I certainly think I earned those roast potatoes!
There we have it 1st January 2015, 10km run and post one of Janathon complete.
